Facial Reshaping Program

Do You

... have to avoid wearing certain hairstyles because it made your face look wide and unflattering?

... go on diet but find that it doesn't help you decrease the "chubby" area around the lower section of your face?

Let's face it.

Most of us would prefer an oval face, which gets away with just about any hairstyle it wants - long or short. A square-shaped face is also often considered unpleasant and undesirable, and may be associated with less attractive qualities especially in females.

What Makes A Face Square?

A square-shaped face is medically known as masseteric muscle hypertrophy, a benign condition characterized by a bilateral enlargement of the muscles in the lower jawbone that creates a square-shaped face.

According to experts, for an ideal proportion of the face, the temple regions should be at least 10 per cent wider than the upper jaw area; anything less, and what you get is a square-shaped face.

Although its origin is vague, masseteric muscle hypertrophy has been linked to habitual clenching and grinding of the jaws during sleep (bruxism) and excessive chewing of particular food, such as dried squid and gum.

In general, Asians are born with a relatively wider, square-shaped lower face than Caucasians. However, a slimmer face is usually more suitable to enhance delicate Asian features.

Redefining Your Facial Contour

The shape of your face is influenced by three major factors:

  • bone structure
  • facial muscle
  • total fat around the face

Lower face contouring in masseteric muscle hypertrophy is a new and exciting aesthetic application of botulinum type A (BTA). The BTA procedure is a non-surgical treatment for patients who desire a slimmer lower face without resorting to invasive surgical procedures. It is useful to reduce the size of your lower face if facial muscles are causing its enlargement.

In the case of messeteric muscle hypertrophy, it's important that your doctor determine the contributing factor to your condition before embarking on a corrective treatment.

For example, a surgical procedure, such as a bone resection, is indicated when your facial shape is due to your natural bone structure. Liposuction is recommended if it's excess fat that's causing your face to look broad and square.

BTA Procedure For Facial Contouring

In a facial contouring procedure, BTA is injected into specific muscles in the lower jawbone that cause masseteric muscle hypertrophy. The relaxed muscles in the lower jawbone will eventually shrink when they are deprived of activity, resulting in a slimmer facial contour.

The onset of results varies between 2 to 4 weeks, with maximum effects observed 3 months after treatment. For a long-lasting result, an additional (booster) shot may be required after the third month.

BTA-procedure performed by qualified and trained medical professionals is safe. Potential side effects from a facial contouring BTA-procedure are temporary, and may last between 1 to 4 weeks. This may include reduced chewing capacity, discomfort at injection sites and speech disturbance.

While the application of BTA in facial contouring is relatively new, several journal- published research have documented good results, with high patient satisfaction and lasting positive effects from the procedure.

What Is A BTA Procedure?

BTA Procedure is a non-surgical option that has been extensively and successfully used for wrinkle treatment for over 10 years. Click here to find out more about BTA procedure.
